Icelanders do not give up easily, they light the road to eternity with colorful crosses.<\/p>\n<p>I have always liked the Polish November Day of the Dead. When I was a kid it was a big social event for me. In the Beskid countryside, holding hands with my cousins, I walked along the cemetery alleys, put my fingers in the colorful waxes of burning candles and ate honey candies. I stared at the people and the tombstones they prayed over. On this one and only day, thanks to the colored lights, the cemetery did not seem like a sad place to me. I walked around until I got a wax cast on each toe and I slowly stopped feeling my feet. Returning home, the whole family looked together for more colorful cemeteries by the road.<\/p>\n<p>Then there were the large Krakow necropolises, Rakowice and Podg\u00f3rski, whose tombstones I admired like art. There I got lost with my high school friends, smoking my first cigarettes and getting inspired by the biographies of artists buried there. In addition, colorful stalls and an annual concert without applause, which put us in a doubly nostalgic mood. We thought about eternity, memento mori and carpe diem, as we should.<\/p>\n<p>You won&#8217;t be surprised if I say that Icelandic cemeteries are also my favorite spot. For Christmas, they are decorated with special lights and electronic crosses in several colors. I&#8217;ve never seen anything like it before. Special devices are bought in stores for about PLN 600. Blue, white and red reign. Each tombstone has its own wiring, thanks to which it tirelessly illuminates the winter darkness. Geothermal energy has allowed Iceland to put on this electronic graveyard show. Let me say one thing: it is beautiful.
